If you write any software or manage any projects, you'll no doubt find you're answering the same questions time and again. I certainly did.

Both through online, open-source scripts such as those in the fuzzylime family - and in other projects, not all of them web-related - I kept wishing for a simple place to store all those questions that just kept coming up, along with answers. Then I could simply direct users to the appropriate place and they'd find the solution automatically.

So, instead of looking for something that already did the job... I wrote one.

fuzzylime (faq) is the result. It's a pretty straightforward script, that only really does one thing. You install it, you sign up and you can post questions. You can also post answers to existing questions, while some users can edit both these questions and answers.

The script supports giving answers tags and the database is fully searchable.

The default page lists the most recent answered and unanswered questions, as well as the most popular questions with answers - so your users can quickly find the answer they're looking for.

fuzzylime (faq) also has one useful extra for anyone who wants to install it for a company. Sign-up can be restricted to certain e-mail address domains - meaning that the script can be hosted on the internet, but only your own users can access it.

The script doesn't ask for much from your server - it has to run PHP - PHP4 or PHP5 should both work equally well. It also needs a MySQL database. Chances are, if you have PHP, you'll either already have or be able to get one of these.

Why not give it a try? It should be enormously simple; and, if you get stuck, you can always check out our forums.
